What data graphiclanguage.ca collects and why
- Tracking: There are no Facebook, Google or other advertising/social media tracking mechanisms on the Graphic Language website and there never will be.
You can install the Privacy Badger extension (a project of the non-profit Electronic Frontier Foundation) for most popular browsers to detect whether you’re being tracked.
- Analytics: GDPR compliant Matomo Analytics respects your privacy and is the “#1 open-source web analytics platform in the world”.
- Comments: If you leave a comment or review, the data you enter in the comment form is collected, along with your IP address and browser user agent string to detect and reduce spam. An anonymized string (also called a hash) may be created from your email address (if you are required to provide one) and provided to the Gravatar service to verify whether or not you are one of its users. If you’ve commented on other WordPress sites, there’s a good chance you already have a Gravatar avatar, in which case, after vetting your comment, that profile picture is visible to the public adjacent to your remarks. Gravatar, like WordPress, WooCommerce, JetPack and Akismet are part of Automattic. The Automattic privacy policy is here.
- Contact forms: I do not share any information you send in a contact form or e-mail with anyone.
- Embedded content: Pages and posts on this site may include embedded material like videos, images, articles and definitions from other sources. That embedded content from those other websites behaves in the exact same way as it would if you were viewing it on the source site. In other words, they may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracing your interaction with it if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I keep embedded content to a minimum.
Cookies
- Browser Cookies: If you leave a comment on the site you can choose to have your name, e-mail address and website saved via cookies so that you do not have to enter your details again should you decide to leave another comment. These cookies are set to last for one year but you can delete some or all cookies from your computer anytime. Just look up the steps for clearing cookies specific to the browser and device you’re using.
- You may need to create an account to order a stock copywriting service here at graphiclanguage.co. When you do, WordPress, the open source platform this site is built with, will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- Several cookies will be created when you login to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you check the “Remember Me” option, your login will persist for a longer period. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
How long your data is retained
- If you leave a comment, it, and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. The site also securely stores any personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit (everything except your username) and delete your personal information at any time. This website’s administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have to your data
- If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of your personal data. You can also request to have your personal data erased. This does not include any data I may be obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Where your data goes
- Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
